Wow so much has happened this week I don't even know where to start. First of all this place is pretty dope. I've never felt the spirit so strong in my life and everyone here is so fun because we all have the same goal. My companion is Elder McBride he's from Layton Utah and he likes to snowboard. We have similar personalities so we get along pretty well. The other Elders in my district are awesome as well. There is 4 districts in our zone. Me and Elder McBride got assigned to be the zone leaders on our third day, so it's been pretty awesome to get to know everyone in the zone and to help them.
The MTC is full of ups and downs one second your feeling the spirit so strong and the next you feel like crap. But everyone here feels the same way and there's definitely wayyyyyy more ups then downs. At first I was struggling with the teaching, i felt like i never knew what to say or what to do. Then they showed us this video from Gordon B. Hinckley about when he was on his mission he was struggling and he wrote his Dad. His dad said, "Gordon, forget your self and go to work." That's one thing that has really stuck with me. This isn't about me this is about other people, this is about there salvation. My whole purpose as a missionary is to invite OTHERS to come unto Christ.
Another message that the Lord keeps getting a crossed to me that goes along with that is humility. In Ether 12 : 27 it says,
27 And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.
The Lord can only help you if you humble yourself before him. I realized the reason that my teaching lessons was sucking is because I wasn't trusting in the Lord. Once me and Elder McBride started studying harder for our lessons and praying harder, we were able to have the Spirit guide us, it's a pretty amazing thing. Half the time we don't end up following the lesson at all but because we did the work the Lord blessed us.
Overall I've adjusted well, it's hard not to succeed when your surrounded by so many amazing people and the Spirit is so strong.
The food here is pretty good but I'm not going to lie it's been rough. Back home I would eat like 12 meals a day and here they limit you to 3. I've actually lost about 6 pounds since I've been here which is crazy. But We've been hitting the gym hard every day, I lift weights for about 40 minutes and then play basketball for 20. Its a lot of fun. We also have a pullup bar outside the residence so right before bed we can pound some pullups and some pushups.
I really love all the classes here, my teachers are so great and so are all the missionaries. Any fears of speaking or talking to people are gone, I can't get myself to shut up hahah.
I've had the opportunity to give a few priesthood blessings with Elder McBride and some of the other Elders, and let me tell you God loves all of us. I know I've said it a million times but the Spirit here is so strong it shakes my soul.
Overall it's been an awesome experience, I'm just trying to stay humble and listen to the Spirit as much as I can.
I just have to say thank you to my family and my friends. I love you guys so much, you guys have been such great examples to me. Hope you guys are having a good time back home and don't forget to read your scriptures and pray. It's the little things that keep you in tune with the Spirit.
Love you guys,
Elder Forrest
